Sir, – Dara Ó Briain says he's on a "huge campaign to reassert Irish people's foreignness in the UK" (Magazine, July 8th). I'd like to think he's on his own on this one. As an Irishman who has lived and worked in the UK for more than 20 years, I have never felt a foreigner here; it is a great credit to the British that, present political issues aside, they are among the most welcoming and inclusive people I have ever come across. In particular, I feel the Irish have a valued position within the UK, a welcome outcome after many years of strife and prejudice. At a time when Brexit is threatening the peaceful settlement in our islands, is it really time to assert differences? – Yours, etc,
DAVID CLARKE,
Edinburgh.
