Sir, – Micheál Martin rightly describes the promissory note deal as a game-changer in his Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis speech (Home News, April 29th), but outlines that this occurred because of “how Europe has changed its policies”. This is an example of calculated spin to avoid in any way praising the efforts of the Government involved in the negotiation of that significant deal. The debt bailout arrangements across the EU have not been completely invoked in an uniform manner and the delegated negotiation teams of each member state have had a distinct role to play.
