Sir, – The latest election billboard by Fianna Fail is staggeringly awful ("Fianna Fáil to avoid negative campaigning, says Martin", January 14th).
Any voters within a motor vehicle speeding past it at 40 kilometres per hour will mostly just absorb a prominent profile photograph of the Taoiseach.
As for the tiny text with the shallow bleat indicating “there’s a fairer way”, it could be an omen for Fianna Fáil’s campaign – blink and you’ll miss it. – Yours, etc,
JOHN KENNEDY,

Sir, – While unveiling a negative campaign billboard attacking Enda Kenny and Fine Gael, Micheál Martin declared that Fianna Fáil would avoid negative campaigning ahead of the general election.
Call me old-fashioned but surely it is traditional to wait until after the election before breaking election promises? – Yours, etc,
