Sir - Sadly, it would appear that a lot of my fellow citizens are unaware that the Dublin Port Company is planning to fill in an area equivalent to half the Phoenix Park racecourse, i.e. 21 hectares or 52 acres. The proposed in-fill site is opposite the Clontarf bus garage and facing the North Bull Wall. The date for formal objections has come and gone. There were only about 400 objectors, including myself.
Suffice it to say that there are many different grounds for objecting to such a proposal. If Mr Woods gives the nod, it will have many implications for the future of the city, the bay, and particularly the Bull Island and its surrounding environment for many years to come.
I read (The Irish Times, November 18th) that Cllr Gerry Breen described the company's submission as "sneaky, undemocratic and covert". Yes, indeed. Happily, however, there is still time for public opinion to make its voice heard, particularly with the voting numbers in the Dail being as tight as they are. Yours, etc., Alan Loomes,
