Sir, - Enda Connellan, chief executive of the Dublin Port company (April 24th) challenges Sean Loftus on the proposed filling in of Dublin Bay. He also mentions "misinformation" on this serious issue. One would get the impression that Mr Connellan cared about the bay and its environment.
The bottom line is that his company wants to fill in 52 acres of our bay, using rubble and rock from the proposed Port Tunnel. This to me is environmental vandalism and only for Sean Loftus it would have been done 20 years ago. Mr. Connellan and his company have already rejected a number of sensible alternatives.
In the last local elections, the people of Clontarf asked me to support them in their campaign to save our bay. I intend sticking to that promise. However, this issue is bigger than Clontarf. Dublin Bay is the property of all the people of Ireland and we should all work together to preserve it. - Yours, etc.,
Cllr Finian McGrath, Charlemont, Griffith Avenue, Dublin 9.
