Sir. It is unfortunate that Maura O'Riordan (March 4th) felt that she had to burn a copy of The Irish Times because it contained an article about the poster for the film Larry Flynt, which caused controversy in Paris recently.

It is understandable that the imagery in the poster would offend some people, but I do not believe that it was wrong for The Irish Times to reproduce the picture with the article. By showing the picture, it further illustrated why it was so controversial. The article was basically about the effects of the poster and the issue of censorship.

With respect to Ms O'Riordan, I am assuming that it was the Christian-sacrilegious nature of the poster that so offended her - responses to religious sensitivities are typically extreme. Perhaps some reflection, Ms O'Riordan, on the issue of censorship would be more constructive than burning your Irish Times in anger. - Yours, etc.,
