Sir, - With the country in its winter of discontent, the dishonoured PFP in a state of imminent collapse, and Fintan O'Toole (in print journalism) and Charlie Bird (on TV) apparently running the show, Fine Gael, under honest John, has taken the opportunity to launch its latest offensive to dethrone the charismatic Bertie and his faithful cohorts.
But since the answer today to "who is my neighbour" seems to be: "the guy with a lot more money than me", what does the Opposition expect to achieve that the present incumbents cannot?
The same greed will prevail, the same world market forces will send inflation soaring ever higher, the same strike-ing mentality will continue, and, as for Fine Gael's boast to grasp the newly-discovered "Celtic Snail," can they, as a result, avoid being covered in slime? - Yours, etc.,
Vera Hughes, Moate, Co Westmeath.
