Sir, – The Dáil debate about the Government’s spending of public funds on newspaper articles espousing the National Development Plan followed a familiar tired song-and-dance routine.
Leo Varadkar, predictably, defended it as being acceptable, but during this defence he defeated himself by making an example of Fianna Fáil carrying out a similar ploy in 2007.
It brought to my mind Charlie McCreevy’s explanation of the difference between political U-turns and self-serving “unprincipled” policy adjustments.
At this point, I wonder is the development of political discourse also included in the National Development Plan? – Yours, etc,
PAUL McCARRICK,

Sir, – While I have the chance to use this free platform, may I say how wonderful Leo Varadkar is.
PS I wrote this copy myself. – Yours, etc,
