Sir, - We wish to highlight the problems facing CIE buses in our area of Finglas and the result of withdrawal of evening services stopping short their journey into Finglas South and West. While we appreciate the dangers and the costly repairs which stone throwing children (some younger than ten years old) caused to both buses and passengers alike, the withdrawal of the service to the upper regions of our huge estate is causing severe inconvenience, especially to the elderly and young mothers with children, in this harsh weather.

We see the problem as a result of inadequate policing in our area, only in these stone throwing but in the larger area of assaults, muggings and burglaries. We know well that the Guards are stretched to the limit, but it is the responsibility of the politicians to place the necessary resources and manpower on the streets to stamp out this lawlessness.

We can only appeal to CIE to resume the proper services to its customers here, the majority of whom are law abiding citizens. Our association is holding an important public meeting in our Community Hall, on Mcllows Road, Finglas West, on February at 8 pm. The guards and the politicians have been invited to this meeting. - Yours, etc.,
