Sir, – Fintan O’Toole is incorrect when he states that the first performance of Handel’s Messiah took place at the Smock Alley Theatre (Weekend Review, June 16th).

The venue was Neale’s Music Hall in Fishamble Street, on the site of which is now an apartment block. – Yours, etc,
