Sir, - I was wondering if Aer Lingus could elucidate a reason for the outrageous prices of certain flights in Europe? Being a university student, I recently enquired about the price of a one-way Aer Lingus flight from Dublin to Paris for the beginning of June. The tour operator gave me a quote of £346. Keeping other options in mind, I enquired directly to the Ryanair Booking-Office for a flight of the same sort. This time, a Ryanair operator informed me of a direct flight to Paris for £49. It doesn't require much intelligence to realise which airline I will be flying with on this occasion.

I would be grateful if Aer Lingus could perhaps explain the reason for these insane airline prices? I realise the demand for flights to France this summer for the World Cup will be incredibly high, however, I would have thought that as a result of the numerous flights travelling to France every day, these prices would decrease immeasurably. They certainly hold no competition for its foremost competitor, Ryanair. - Yours, etc., Susan O'Driscoll,
