And who are these people eagerly queuing to pay their euro?Workworn and old, like me - those whose paltry wages were taxed to thehilt through the years, while the moneymakers lived in luxury andtraded in bribes, brown envelopes and privileges.
But why the eagerness to lay hands on the report? It is hardlybecause it costs only a euro. There seems to be deep within us the needto know the truth of things. And is there something more - a need thatwrongdoing be exposed?
Is there in us, too, something darker - the desire not just to blamebut to shame? Is there an unsavoury satisfaction in seeing the proudhumbled and the mighty brought low?
