KEVIN G.A. SMITH,
Sir, - As most Irish people surely know, the tricolour comprises green, white and orange - symbolising a truce between green and orange. Yet, I heard three Irish television reporters recently describe it as "green, white and gold".
Given the symbolism, it is always heartening to see the flag being flown in great numbers at home and abroad. That said, why is it not an offence to advertise on it messages other than the one for which it was designed. - Yours, etc.,
KEVIN G.A. SMITH, Weston, Newbridge, Co Kildare.
