Sir, - I am engaged in research on Colonel James Fitzmaurice, the Irishman who was involved with two Germans on the first non stop flight from east to west across the Atlantic in 1928. There has been much written about the flight and the aviators involved, but it is generally accepted that the Irishman never received fitting recognition from his government.
