FOOD FOR THOUGHT

EAMON SWEENEY,

EAMON SWEENEY,

Sir, - Surely it must be more than a mere coincidence that in the very same edition (September 30th) in which John Waters says he will eat a copy of The Irish Times on O'Connell Bridge if the Nice referendum is defeated a second time, Edward Power concludes a review of the McAlmont and Butler concert in the Ambassador by boldly professing; "If they are still a going concern 12 months from now, I'll eat barbed wire."

I hope for the sake of the diet and good health of your journalists that the Nice Treaty is passed and that McAlmont and Butler don't have a hit single over the next year. - Yours, etc.

EAMON SWEENEY,
