Sir, - Anglers who usually fish the lakes in Killarney are enduring unfair discrimination at the hands of Duchas.
In order to protect the deer in the National Park, anglers, climbers and other participants in outdoor occupations have all had to forsake their favourite pastimes for the common good.
However, with the recent relaxation by the Minister, those of us who do not pass on or through agricultural land were invited to resume their favourite activity.
Almost all the angling on the lakes is by boat, and almost all access to boats is from non-agricultural locations, yet fishing remains forbidden. Attempts to obtain reasons for the persistent ban from both Duchas and the local fishery boards is met with vague explanations which are not credible.
Deer are rarely seen in the lake but they are regularly seen on the golf course. Yet there has been no halt to the golfing.
Please Minister, tell Duchas what you have told the anglers. - Yours, etc.,
John A. Cullinane, Coolroe Heights, Ballincollig, Cork.
