A chara, - Frank McNally must be commended for managing to weave between the seemingly disparate themes of high-end fashion, 19th-century penal policy and the Ulster Football Championship (An Irishman's Diary, October 9th). The greater thrill, however, was in spotting a reference to our oft-overlooked county, even in the context of being the birthplace of a notorious convict.

Never mind the "distaff deficit", there's a definite Fermanagh deficit which I'm happy to remedy. - Is mise,
