Madam, - In an otherwise unremarkable letter (June 19th) containing the usual, predictable rhetoric associated with a party which has failed once again to form a government, the newly elected Fine Gael TD for Dublin West excoriates the Green Party for coalescing with the likes of Fianna Fáil and other TDs, reserving Beverley Flynn and former Fine Gael Minister Michael Lowry for special mention.

It may have slipped Leo Varadkar's mind that the deputy leader of his party, while proposing Enda Kenny for Taoiseach, informed the Dáil that the "numbers were there" to elect him.

On the reasonable assumption that Richard Bruton TD was ruling out Sinn Féin's support, it is clear that his leader's election could only have taken place with the support of either or both of the aforementioned TDs.

Students of politics seeking an example of crass hypocrisy need look no further. - Yours, etc,
