A Chara, - Appraisals of Mo Mowlam's contributions to the Northern peace process brought a smile to my face - not least John Taylor's profound appraisal (which I take the liberty of paraphrasing) that her contributions were ruled predominantly by her heart when what was needed now was somebody who thought with their head. It may well be the case that Dr Mowlam's approach was dominated by her emotional aptitude and her appeals from the heart. But, is it not equally noteworthy that the organ with which she is purported to have done most of her thinking and contributing is significantly closer to the Head John Taylor is looking for than the organs being used by of the majority of participants supposedly injecting intellectual, political and legal rigour into the same process.
If they did not take the bottom-up approach quite so literally, we might actually have seen some of the real progress which Dr Mowlam clearly held so dear to heart. - Is mise,
