Madam, - "Without the subsidy of an Arts Council grant, most art is not sustainable." So remarks Arts Council chairwoman Olive Braiden (Nov 8th) and I'm delighted to see the council acknowledging this simple truth.
I presume the chairwoman will know that The Western Writers' Centre - Ionad Scríbhneoiri Chaitlín Maude - based here in Galway, has been refused Arts Council funding no fewer than five times in a row since it opened just over two years ago.
The last refusal was for a simple grant to buy a computer. - Yours, etc.,
