Madam, - So, despite all the concern being expressed about our escalating abuse of alcohol, the GAA has the hypocrisy to claim that "it was appropriate to continue the partnership" with Guinness; and hurling, our national game, involving so many children and young people, is to continue being promoted by the drinks industry .

The former president of the GAA, Dr Mick Loftus, who has done such trojan work to highlight the devastation being caused by alcohol abuse, and called for this sponsorship to be ended, is once again ignored.

What will it take for the GAA to face up to its responsibilities and seek to protect our youth instead of exposing them to associating alcohol and sport at an early age? Where now is idealism and responsible leadership? - Yours, etc,

( Mrs) MARY STEWART, Ardeskin, Donegal Town.
