Madam, - My heart gladdened when I saw the good Minister McDowell had finally decided to act against serious crime in this country.
The series of raids by Ireland's finest on alcohol-free teenage discos (The Irish Times, August 12th) will go a long way to reduce crime on our streets, and will at long last guarantee me a good night's sleep.
Will he now assure your readers that when the Garda has finished dealing with the teenage miscreants, he will devote equal resources to tackling the lesser criminal activity, such as murder, robbery, mugging, rape, illicit drugs, etc. that he seems to have overlooked? - Yours, etc.,
