Sir, - My wife and I have just finished our annual holiday in Ireland. We saw in the papers that your popular presenter Mr Gay Byrne is to retire shortly. No doubt he will receive many messages of good will and a lot of memories will be stirred up.
Our family owe him a huge debt of gratitude. Several years ago we saw the repeat of his programme which was transmitted in the north of England. Together with a doctor, he demonstrated a method of treating someone with a chunk of meat in the throat. A few days later this happened to my dear mother-in-law. Thanks to what we saw on Mr Byrne's programme, we were able to give another few years of a very happy life, though she has since passed away.
