Madam, - Brynn Craffey (June 18th), like the gay movement in general, regards every criticism of same-sex unions as homophobia - "an intense hatred or fear of homosexuals". Yet homosexuality has been condemned by every enlightened civilisation for thousands of years.
He denigrates the natural law argument by pointing to the existence of homosexuality in the animal world, without realising that the natural law does not apply to animals. It is defined as an inherent awareness of good and evil in human beings, discernible by reason rather than by revelation.
As for his claim that adopted children can attain successful adulthood in same-sex households, the evidence so far indicates that these children end up in a very confused and highly disturbed psychological state.
The main problem with the gay community is its failure to distinguish between same-sex attraction and same-sex activity. - Yours, etc,
PATRICK MOLLOY, Brackenstown, Swords, Co Dublin.
