Madam, – I was most interested in the article (Home News, May 9th) on the exhibition relating to Gen de Gaulle’s visit to Ireland. As a young South African girl travelling around Ireland in 1969, I worked in the Heron Cove Guest House in Sneem and have very happy memories of serving Gen de Gaulle afternoon tea while he was writing his memoirs, helping him with his coat (I am quite tall) and spending time chatting with Madame and Admiral François Flohic.
I think only about eight of us worked there and going into Sneem where hundreds of journalsts were camped, we spoke to nobody! I have lived in Ireland ever since. – Yours, etc,
