Gender quotas

Sir, – Further to "Men should stop whining about gender quotas" (Una Mullally, Opinion & Analysis, November 30th) and recent correspondence (December 3rd), those pesky gender quotas really are causing so much unnecessary angst. Let's be completely impartial and insist on gender quotas in all professions. To do otherwise would be so unfair. Stand aside as all the outraged females rush joyfully to undertake jobs predominantly carried out by males – kitchen porters, roadsweepers, bricklayers, sewage workers, rubbish collectors, and so on. There could be a wee problem though if this plan is fulfilled in its entirety. Female-dominated professions would also have to be pruned; suffice it to say that the hospitals might put in an order for more trolleys forthwith. – Yours, etc,

AILEEN HOOPER,

Stoneybatter,
