Sir, - The Taoiseach mentioned in his dissolution speech that the election was called for May 17th to ensure more students get to vote.

If Fianna Fáil or any other political party is that interested in getting the "youth" vote, they should set up electronic polling stations outside Irish cinemas. For many "young" people, Friday May 17th is important for only one reason; Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones opens that weekend.

For anyone with no interest in Star Wars, the cloning does not refer to the different political parties election manifestos, nor to "chip off the old block" candidates. - Yours, etc.,

Eoin O'Connor, Bertram Court, Cornmarket, Dublin 8.

A chara, - I was interested to read in your edition of April 22nd that the 5,000-strong Pakistani community in Ireland can participate in their country's referendum on April 30th. I have a sister who has worked in Pakistan for many years and I follow the affairs of that country with some interest.

It is to the Irish Government's shame that my sister in Pakistan cannot vote in any referendum in Ireland or in the general election. I look forward to the day when Ireland joins the rest of the developed world in giving the vote to its citizens living abroad. - Is mise,
