Sir, The General Election raises the anomaly of aspiring public representatives being allowed to contest elections, despite having obvious tax problems. Should not the same criteria be used as in the issuing of other state licences such as auctioneering, selling intoxicating liquor, building contracting, book making, etc. This would mean that "applicants" for a seat in Dail Eireann or the Seanad should accompany their deposits and nominations with a valid Tax Clearance Certificate. - Is Mise,
