Madam, - While it may be true that girls are becoming louder and more abusive, (October 15th) is it not our perception of boys and girls that leads to this rise in calls from concerned parents?
If, for example, a teenage boy is involved in a verbal or physical dispute with a peer, we see it in a "boys will be boys", "he's rowdy but sure aren't they all?" way.
By contrast, we see girls who are engaged in such behaviour as giving cause for significant concern.
I agree that this phenomenon is not to be encouraged, but should we not be equally concerned with the well documented rise in violence among teenage boys as well? - Yours etc,
