GOD AND MAMMON

GERARD CLARKE,

GERARD CLARKE,

Madam, - That the vulgar obsession with money has permeated all aspects of life in Ireland is evident from your letters page of late in which we have had dire warnings of lost income, inter alia, from prohibiting the landing of foreign soldiers at Shannon, and from the banning of smoking in pubs.

What has become of principled national and civic pride, and moral concern for the greater good? All sacrificed, it appears, to Mammon. - Yours, etc.,

GERARD CLARKE, Stirling Park, Orwell Road, Dublin 14.
