Sir, – Here, as everywhere in Irish society, snobbery plays a major part. People who wince at “he done” as vulgarly common, do not hesitate to say “he sung”, an equally heinous solecism.
Similarly, there is a tendency to regard “me” as a lower-class usage, even where the case is correct.
The pronoun “who” also misleads the grammatically insecure and the socially aspirant. “‘Whom are you?’, he asked, for he had been to night school.” – Yours, etc,
