Grandparents' Day

Sir, - Grandparents' Day is today, Saturday, September 27th. We hope it will be the occasion for much happiness, with grandparents and grandchildren all over the country sharing the special bond of affection which springs so readily between the younger and older members of families. But as we rejoice in this, please give a thought to the many thousands of grandparents and grandchildren who cannot share together this Grandparents' Day because of marital/relationship breakdown in their families.

Family life today can be full of turmoil for so many families and regrettably, the stable and loving influence of older family members with the sad children of these families is cast aside. Yet it is this very stability that the youngsters need so badly.

Grandparents Obliterated recognises only too clearly that there are many grandparents yearning to be reunited with their beloved grandchildren.

The new Government has decided to proceed with the Children's Bill, published by the last government. This legislation will allow grandparents the legal right to apply to the courts for appropriate access to their grandchildren. It will also allow Grandparents Obliterated to change its name to Grandparents' Organisation. - Yours, etc.,
