Sir, – A stressful mission to the passport office today unfolded in a most unexpected way. There were no queues. The atmosphere was calm. The waiting area was quiet and uncrowded. The security man provided humour and comfort to anxious applicants. Internet access was available for those who needed to access documents they had forgotten. Such documents could be sent to the printer beside the relevant clerk who was dealing with the application. The staff were kind, patient and smiling. The process was fast and efficient.
What country are we living in? – Yours, etc.
