Sir, – Suzanne Lynch quotes the Greek prime minister Alexis Tsipras as warning lenders not to impose "humiliating" terms on Greece ("Greece's leader criticises new proposals by lenders", June 6th).
The only people who imposed humiliating terms on Greece were the powerful people who ran Greece over many years and who bankrupt the country.
To add insult to injury, the present prime minister of Greece is threatening the taxpayers of all the countries, including the poorest, whose loans bailed Greece out, that Greece will default on these loans.
The fact that this might lead to destitution for many Greeks – not to mention in the worst-case scenario the dismantling of the EU – is not a concern to the Greek government is a symptom of its irresponsible cynicism. – Yours, etc,
A LEAVY,
