Guff or plain speaking?

Sir, – Lucy Kellaway's articles are always entertaining and instructive. In her most recent column, she addresses the subject of those who use terms such as "passionpreneur", "to solutionize", "to mindshare" and "to role-model" ("Introducing Guffipedia, an outlet for all victims of bull", December 14th).

I read with interest “Varadkar recommends replacing HSE with more local structures” (December 15th). According to this article, the Minister for Health said “an immediate priority was to develop a capacity for commissioning services ‘with the aim of driving a value-based purchasing agenda on behalf of patients’”.

I wonder what Lucy Kellaway would make of the appalling guff uttered by Mr Varadkar. I think it is a sad state of affairs when language used by the Minister creates an almost irresistible urge in an ordinary citizen like me to visit my already overburdened general practitioner in urgent need of an effective anti-nausea remedy. – Yours, etc,

PAUL GULLY,
