Sir, - It was with disgust that I read the childish letter of Councillor John Hussey of Fermoy (November 11th). Mr Hussey might care to consider that the Stone of Scone is simply being moved to another part of the United Kingdom and that as Hong Kong's lease expires on June 30th, 1997, control of it is straightforwardly reverting to China (although I, like many others, would prefer to see an independent Hong Kong).
He may have a point regarding the Elgin Marbles, but it should be remembered that if they had not been removed to Britain in 1812, far from agitating for their return, the nation of Greece would probably be now lamenting their later destruction.
The people of Fermoy, using the ballot box, determined that Mr Hussey would represent them. Turning to the outlandish and ill thought out remarks he made about Gibraltar and Northern Ireland, he might allow the people of these two places the same rights that he exercises. - Yours, etc.,
