Madam, - As someone who is "hard of hearing" I am well aware of the lack of acoustic facilities not just at the Abbey but at most theatres in Dublin (the Helix at DCU and the National Concert Hall are the exceptions). I heartily thank Gillian Armstrong for her complaint (August 8th).
As an active member of the Irish Hard of Hearing Association for the past 10 years, I have come to realise that most of us who are quite deaf or severely deafened do not complain about such deficiencies in our theatres. We just drop out!
Not enough people complain and nothing is done. I look forward to any response with great interest. - Yours, etc.,
