Sir, - It was with great interest I read Fiona Griffin's article on Harry Clarke (Weekend, March 17th). I am writing to inform your readers that, here in Carrickmacross, in St Joseph's Church, we are privileged to have 13 Harry Clarke stained glass windows in the main body of the Church and four smaller windows in the former mortuary chapel, bringing the total to 17 windows; quite a collection, one could say.
These windows were all executed in the Harry Clarke Studios and it is reputed that Harry himself crafted the three windows in what was originally the baptistery under the old choir loft in the north transept.
Readers who love and appreciate stained glass art would certainly benefit from a visit to St Joseph's to see these magnificent masterpieces. When the sunlight shines through these wonderful windows the viewer cannot but be enthralled and uplifted by the kaleidoscope of colour that gleams and glitters like jewels in a crown.
As an added bonus to the visit, there are 14 stations of the cross as well as a painting of the Virgin Mary by Richard King, who worked as one of the chief artists in the Harry Clarke Studios in Dublin. - Yours, etc.,
Mary J. Duffy, Mullinarry, Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan.
