A chara, - The Irish Road Hauliers' Association are threatening to set up blockades at fuel depots and ports in an attempt to have fuel tax reduced.
I oppose any such cut on the environmental principle that "the polluter pays", particularly when diesel fumes are the main reason for poor air quality in our towns and cities and the substantial increase in asthma suffers.
If the hauliers mount blockades on Friday and Monday, I propose that cyclists, pedestrians and others who support environmentally friendly measures should in turn block hauliers' depots and the ports which they serve. The road lobby are fond of using bullying tactics; now perhaps is the time to use those same tactics against them. - Is mise,
