HAVES AND HAVE-NOTS

COILIN O DRISCEOIL,

COILIN O DRISCEOIL,

Madam, - The massive windfall profits enjoyed by the few individuals who run the bloodstock industry in this country are not taxed because of Fianna Fáil policy. With Mr McCreevy about to hit the poor of this country where it hurts in his budget, this is an absolute disgrace and cannot be justified in any circumstances. - Yours, etc.,

Madam, - The following headline appeared in your edition of October 29th: "Funds plea to feed 14m in Horn of Africa". The WFP executive director, Mr James Morris, said: "At least 10 million people will need food aid just in Ethiopia. But if this month's rains stop early, up to 14 million people there will require urgent assistance."

This report merited only a small column, in sharp contrast to the full page in the Irish Times Magazine of October 26th, in which Louise East described, in great detail, the meal enjoyed by two people in Thornton's of St Stephen's Green for which "The Damage" was €351.

I find this totally unacceptable and obscene. - Yours, etc.,
