Sir, – Playful headlines (Brian Maye, An Irishman’s Diary, June 9th) can brighten a dull day and the authors should be duly honoured.
The New York Post’s 1983 tabloid classic “Headless body in topless bar” may never be bettered, but I nominate the Irish Times’s January headline “Empress of Austria found in Meath kennel” for a gold medal – it gave cheer to monarchists everywhere and is framed on my wall. – Yours, etc,
