Madam, - The Archbishop of Dublin, Dr John Neill, is quite correct to highlight concerns about the continued provision of paediatric services at Tallaght Hospital (The Irish Times, May 11th). Remembering the takeover of the Meath Hospital by the Knights of Columbanus in the 1950s, it is vital that there continues to be a strong, unassailable Protestant presence in the health service.
In paediatrics and in matters to do with maternity and reproductive medicine there is a huge chasm between the Protestant traditions and the Roman Catholic church. The Protestant presence in the health service is non-negotiable. The Dean of St Patrick's (May 13th), instead of undermining his own tradition, should be seeking to build it up. - Yours, etc,
Rev DAVID FRAZER, Inse Bay, Laytown, Co Meath.
