Madam, - There has been much debate in these columns recently about the number of road deaths caused by HGV's. Yet there is silence on the whole issue of Ireland's declining rail freight.
Hundreds if not thousands of trucks spill on to our capital's streets every day. When was the last time we heard of a cyclist being killed by a freight train? It is high time this Government offered incentives for the private sector to operate rail freight in Ireland. - Yours, etc,
MÍCEÁL BOLGER, Cill Bharróg, Baile Átha Cliath 5.
