Sir, – It sickens me to watch what is unfolding in east Africa. In the 21st century, with the massive strides made in so many facets of life, we still have children dying of hunger, something we surely should have left behind years ago.
Strip out the noise of conflict, corruption and cause, and we are still left with children dying for unforgivable reasons.
None of Ireland’s problems comes close, in scale or depth, to what is being experienced only hours away from our shores. If we believe in basic human rights and equality we must act, both to address the current outrage and also to prevent these occurrences from being commonplace in this century. To turn away is to be complicit. – Yours, etc,
