Madam, – Like many people, I don’t know how I can help the people of Japan, apart from donating money. Their predicament is beyond awful and I can barely imagine what those poor people went through and are still going through. Money will not solve all of the difficulties that they are facing, but it will help.
I am proposing a national fast day, on which Irish people eat nothing for 24 hours in support of the people of Japan. We can use the money that would have been spent on food that day to help Japan. The day of the voluntary national fast could be this Friday, March 26th. I don’t think the Japanese can wait until Good Friday, on April 22nd. – Yours, etc,
