Sir, - I had read only a short way into Mary Hannigan's Sport on Television column (The Irish Times, January 19th), when my heart leaped with joy. The reason? Dear old George Hamilton - he of the heartbreakingly wrong predictions - on learning the pairing of teams for the European Cup qualifying rounds, gave great hope to the Republic soccer fans when he announced: "You'd have to say it's not a great draw!" This means we will almost certainly qualify.
Now, if only those of us who are also keen Formula One fans could get the affable George to predict that the Jordan team won't win a race next season! - Yours, etc.,
