Madam, - Alan Dukes (September 21st), in criticising Dr Fenton Howell's well-meaning if strange remarks on the dangers of smoking in cars, suggests that the good doctor should perhaps advise us not to get out of bed in the morning in order to avoid undue risks.

Has Mr Dukes not considered the risks of remaining in bed? After all, look at the countless numbers of people who have died there. - Yours, etc.,
