Sir, - It has come to my attention that the management board of the Southern Health Board are paying "home helps" as little as £1.70 an hour. This is a disgrace. The service provided by home helps to their clients is not only vital but invaluable. Yet the SHB is willing to remunerate their work at less than £2 hourly. I challenge members of the SHB management to go out to a local shop and buy a loaf of bread and a pound of butter and see how much change they get out of £1.70. Will this make them think ? - Yours, etc., Brendan Hennessy
