Sir, – Leo Owens (September 21st) states that home ownership went from a high of 81.8 per cent to 68 per cent since 2004.
This calls into question what exactly constitutes “home ownership”.
Given the number of bank repossessions, and indeed the number of bank sales of mortgage books, at what point are you considered the “owner”? What other item of possession can be sold without your knowledge, or indeed be still considered your possession, if its actual ownership and disposal is in somebody else’s hands and to do with as they please.
Better to say that bank ownership of houses has declined since 2004. – Yours, etc,
