Madam, - Your front-page picture of December 1st, showing a campaigner for the homeless being escorted away from Dáil Éireann, prompts my letter. Together with 20,000 others I recently put my name to a petition organised by a group of homeless people outside the Stephen's Green Centre. I admired the initiative it took for them to get organised in the first place. It was the first time I had seen this disadvantaged group stand up and ask for help themselves - normally a charity has to do it on their behalf.
It would be great if someone with power and the means to effect change could now step into the picture and help the group help themselves. - Yours, etc,
CATHERINE IGOE, Ballintyre Walk, Ballinteer, Dublin 16.
